New York style Deli coming to Naples

Deli coming to Naples

New Deli coming Soon to Naples, FL

Exciting News for foodies!  TooJay’s Deli Bakery Restaurant is coming to Mercato in North Naples.

The popular casual chain that began on Florida’s east coast will fill the space vacated by Stage Deli, which operated in the local mixed-use development for 7½ years before closing in July 2017. Although TooJay’s Management Corp. owns and operates nearly 30 locations since launching in Palm Beach in 1981, the Mercato spot will be its first in Collier or Lee counties.

The new deli and restaurant are targeted to open in early 2019. If the Great Recession had not occurred, an original TooJay’s Gourmet Deli would have opened in the Naples area a decade ago.

“We actually were seeking out sites in Naples at one time,” a former spokeswoman for TooJay’s said in 2012. “Things changed, so we pulled back on our expansion plans.”

The deli chain has received many emails, letters and telephone calls from Naples-area fans asking the company when it is opening a location in this region, said Maxwell Piet, president and CEO of TooJay’s, based in West Palm Beach.

Now is the right time

“For us the timing is right,” Piet said. “I think, generally speaking, TooJay’s knows Naples has a great space for us. It’s growing.”

TooJay’s Reuben sandwiches and matzo ball soup may be worth the wait. The restaurant offers a taste of the Big Apple for breakfast, lunch, dinner and catering every day with generous portions of comfort foods such as sandwiches, soups, salads and baked goods.

“We are excited to bring great hospitality and delicious flavors of our New York deli to the Naples community,” Piet said.

Many of the sandwiches feature hand-sliced meats such as hot pastrami and corned beef that are rolled up to create an impressive presentation. Deli sandwiches include the Triple J – corned beef, roast beef, turkey and Swiss cheese rolled with cole slaw and homestyle Russian dressing.

Entrees include build-your-own burgers and chicken sandwiches, shepherd’s pie, pot roast, liver and onions, beef brisket, fish and chips, crab-stuffed cod and stuffed cabbage. Deli dogs feature two grilled all-beef franks topped with pastrami, cole slaw and Russian dressing or topped with bacon and cheddar cheese or sauerkraut.

The Breakfast Menu

The breakfast menu includes signature Benedicts, skillets, omelets, wraps and sandwiches. The early menu also features fish platters, many a la carte items and morning specials such as waffle sliders and chicken and waffles.

Desserts include banana, coconut and carrot cakes – and the most popular Killer Cake for chocolate lovers. The bakery also has brownies, cookies, eclairs, rice pudding and more. Beverages include beer and wine.

Expect the 29th location for TooJay’s to open here early in the first quarter, Piet said, with the hiring of team members occurring around Thanksgiving.

“We’ve already begun to hire our management staff for there,” he said

Although work has yet to begin on the new TooJay’s, expect another major overhaul of the deli-restaurant’s interior. A bakery counter figures prominently in the contemporary design and the deli area will be designed to showcase sliced-to-order meats.

“The guest space will be set up totally different. With our new look and feel everybody is going to enjoy it,” Piet said. “The really great thing about the Mercato location is that we will have a really, fun outdoor atmosphere.”

The 3,100-square-foot space will seat 74 guests inside and 42 on the patio. TooJay’s will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information go to TooJay’
